West Bengal Legislative Assembly Elections 2021 reduced to the sloganeering of Khela Hobey Vs Khela Shesh Hobe….

 

 


Election schedule announced on 26 February 2021, by the Election Commission of India for the 294 seats of West Bengal Legislative Assembly, outlays the voting in 8 phases from 27 March 2021 to 29 April 2021 and vote counting on 2 May 2021.  With the announcement of dates, the political sloganeering accompanied with massive rallies, especially by two key parties viz.  Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) led by its star campaigner Narendra Modi, the current Prime Minister of India and Amit Shah, the present Home Minister of India and All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) led by Mamta Banerjee or should one say Mamta Didi, is in its full swing with no holds bar attacks and counter attacks.  The rest of the political parties including Indian National Congress that has lost its pathway for a long time not only in West Bengal but guess pan India and CPI (M) are probably happy being the second fiddle!

The one by one exit, of many from the TMC and their public welcome in BJP, other than immediate change of West Bengal Top Police brass- the ADG and IGP (Paw and Order) with the announcement of the Election dates and the EC approving the same within no time or the CBI raids on TMC leaders and MP’s such as Abhishek Banerjee, who is also Mamta Didi’s nephew or the game of scathing personal attacks, touching newer levels of lowness, and all seemingly okay with that, and taking it as part of the election fever and even otherwise, reflect what #wethepeople of the world’s largest democracy or most populous democracy stand for or ready accept.  It's a pattern which even a deaf and dumb can understand well, but still its all silence or ignorance or by many the mandate of defending and encouraging. Mind you, here its not the segment which is hired to do so, but its also the segment which is so called – the literate …educated middle class….which moves with all struggles to live a more comfortable and successful life and a more urbanite upper class lifestyle …


The Khel hobey vs Khel Shesh Hobe, Asol Poribartan .. Vikas Aaramb Hobe … by the PM of India …infact his statement yesterday, 18th March 2021 while addressing BJP election rally in West Bengal’s Purulia district, where in PM Modi said, "Didi bole khela hobe, BJP bole chaakri hobe. Didi bole khela hobe, BJP bole vikas hobe. Didi bole khela hobe, BJP bole shiksha hobe. Khela shesh hobe, vikas aarambh hobe."… and an equally roaring attack by Trinamool Congress Chief Mamta Banerjee, two day ago, wherein she point black cornered BJP and its Chieftains at the rally in Bankura district's Mejia wherein sitting on wheelchair she said,  "Will the Union home minister run the country or hatch conspiracy to harass us in Bengal? Is the BJP hatching conspiracy to kill me? They (the Election Commission) have even removed my director of security" and the continuation… "What does Amit Shah think of himself? You will use brute force to shut everything? You can't get crowds to your meeting, that's why you are using force. You are creating conspiracies. You don't allow the press to speak. You have shut their mouths."  - at least gives one message clear that there is one lady who is not going to take things, hand down!  What fate and destiny holds, that the coming days will surely reveal but giving a one army kinda of fight in a ‘khel’, which has no ground rules ….is scripting #India’s future in many ways!

Mamta Banerjee’s question on the role of Home Minister of India or on the Election Commission or the way the entire scheming and hatching of conspiracies goes on by BJP, the party that also hold the office at Centre is matter to be concerned about and not just washed away with counter attacks.  Her questions on the way Election Commission or other Institutions like the CBI …or the Indian Judiciary is being used by the party in Power and people holding positions such as that of Home Minister or as PM of India, needs to be viewed more objectively and its repercussion in the years to come for India.

Mamta Banerjee’s outcry, when she said, "I am asking with respect to the Election Commission. Who is running the Election Commission? Amit Shah, are you running it? This is a question I have. We want a free and fair election but who is Amit Shah? Who is he to guide the election commission? He is interfering in the day-to-day work of the commission. And this is working against us. My security in-charge has also been removed. What do they want? Do they want to kill me?"  …..are questions which are steadily rubbing the common man too, of India …. If we see the kind of incidents and cases that are being registered and people being put behind bars …and after days and months of torture….. and the struggle taking the legal route … being released with the news that enough grounds were not there in the case…..is a daring reality that will knock each ones door, sooner than later.

The sloganeering …the personal attacks …..the upheaval by getting some thing or the other announced just by the virtue of being the party in power and in Chair …the modus operandi …that has taken birth, especially in the last 7-8 years, has made the entire election and parliamentary system look very helpless and a kinda of façade.  The respect and seriousness for all these defining moments, for any democracy have been reduced to  its lowest ebb.  All real issues of concern and action, worth talking about and on which elections or any matter should be addressed is all now about media and PR management,  campaigns and advertisements to build a narrative … riots , personal attacks …below the belt .. statement of false and incorrect facts etc. Stooping to the levels of murders,  buying of MLAs and MPs… fake video aimed at character assassination and corruption charges … and the list is unending… We all as people of independent and progressive ….developed India get busy with all such stuff.

Guess, the upcoming West Bengal Assembly Elections 2021, is also being steered on the same lines …and if not this time, BJP’s Khela Shesh Hobe may happen in the next elections and Mamta Banerjee this time, end up  being lucky with her Khel Hobey. Indian National Congress and its leaders …. probably will be busy settling scores with each other and the Nehru’s and Gandhi’s  and CPI (M)  lost within its ideology…
